About Maggie
One of the things that I’ve found helpful in slower seasons—or really if I’m overworked—is to create some passion projects. Something to pull me away from client work, and just create to have fun!
I put on some music or a good podcast and sketch up some logo ideas and then build them out in Illustrator.
My inspiration usually comes from friends, family, or trending themes online. This one, in particular, is from my childhood best friend, Natasha. And who is a dance teacher, and a phenomenal ballerina—although I may be VERY biased.
Since I had the name already, I started to think about what could be a unique studio logo. I liked the line art style as it’s delicate, yet detailed. What I feel is similar to ballet.
I pulled in some colours that were soft yet bold. Again something that I felt exemplified ballet. While I did not go so far as to think about the ideal client or who would attend Miss Natasha’s Studio. I thought about all the classes my friend Natasha has taught. And I thought that a pointe shoe and tutu were perfect icons to include on the brand board.
Like in my brand packages, I provide a few variations of the logo that can be used if there are different space restrictions—think business cards, or social media icons, versus a sign on the door.
I wanted this brand to have some variations that Natasha could use. So I worked on building different sizes and also shapes.
While presenting every brand I provide clients an overview of their brand colours, fonts, and logo variations. I figured why not replicate that with my passion projects?
So I made a standard brand board for Miss Natasha’s studio that encompassed all variations of her logo and brand information. This is a great one-page tool that businesses can share with other designers and staff so they can have an idea of what the high-level brand pieces are.
I had so much fun creating this brand for my friend, even if it was only a passion project. I’d love to know what other industry I could try to create a brand for. Or if you are looking for a new brand, I’d be honoured to work with you! Hop into my inbox, or DM me on the ‘gram to chat!
