About Maggie
When a brand design project is complete, there are two types of file types that designers like myself will send clients.
A vector file is made up of a mathematical formula to build an image. The formula can resize the image and maintain its quality regardless of how much the size is increased or decreased. (Who knew math and design worked together?!).
Vector files are used when you want to place your logo on something large—like a billboard—or small like a USB drive.
There are three types of vector files I provide within a brand project:
The designs for brands are typically made in Illustrator. Consider these the “original” file format. A designer may pass these along to clients so they can use this as the foundation for other items—think exporting more assets from the original. Or, the original file can be inserted into other designs—both print or digital materials.
This is a file meant to be used for print designs. It can be stretched without blurring to large real estate such as billboards or reduced without blurring to small real estate such as business cards. Designers can use these logo files as the highest quality version for print materials.
This is a file meant for online use on websites. If you want to upload your new logo to your website, use this file.
Raster files are built with pixels—tiny color squares that make up large, very detailed images. The more pixels there are, the larger the file size and the higher quality the image. However, there is a limit to how many pixels can be in a raster file.
When stretched or expanded past the pixel limit, the raster file will lose its crispness and appear much less polished.
Raster files are best used on items that will not be stretched to large real estate such as billboards since the images WILL become blurry.

This traditional image file is capable of storing an image with a transparent background, meaning you can place it on top of another image or colored background without a white box appearing around the logo. You can use this type of image on your social media accounts.
This traditional file type can be used on anything with a white background, as a white box will appear around the logo or illustration. You can use these on social media as well.
Here are the files you’ll get from me if I design your logo👇🏻
You will receive your primary logo, secondary logo, and sub-mark in full-colour, black, and reverse (white). I also like to throw in a few versions of your logo in your brand colours!
I export in EPS, SVG, PNG, and AI files so that you have high-resolution images that are ready to use on various mediums.
Your logo will be exported for both print and digital use. This is important as colours do not show up the same when printed and shared online. You will want CMYK for printing and RGB for digital use.
You’re likely thinking “WOW Maggie, that’s A LOT of files you’re exporting.” Yes, it is! But, I’d rather give you more files in case you need them rather than not enough. You should not have low-quality images for the high-quality content you’re creating.
I want you to be set up for success and ensure your logo is ready for whatever project you’re working on next!
So, if you’re in the market for a new logo, or even a refresh, hit me up! I’d love to chat with you about your next project.
