This post is all about helping you make some basic edits to your Showit website.
To edit a page click the Page Menu, and the page you want to edit. From there, choose the canvas you want to edit.
The Canvases are stacked on the left of the screen. Elements will show up in the order you place them. If you want to reorganize the the order, drag and drop the element or canvas.
There are two types of canvas: Page Canvas and Site Canvas.
“Page Canvases” live individually on a single page. You will need to edit them individually.
Site Canvases can live on multiple pages. You only need to edit them in one spot and that will adjust across the website.
To create or swap a canvas to become page/site canvas, select the canvas, then click the three dots to the right and select “Convert to Page/Site Canvas.”
To identify a Site Canvas, look for the little circle added to a page icon. Or the blue outline around the canvas in the preview section. See the photo below and a popup that says site canvas.
Once you are working on the page, select the three dots to the right on the page title, and add a new canvas, or blank canvas.
When you select “Add A New Canvas” a pop-up will prompt you to choose a canvas from your saved canvases—Site Canvas—your websites. If you have more than one website, your library—if you purchase any templates, and free Showit library canvas.
From the Showit Library, you can adjust the new canvas to have your brand colours on it so it blends in with your website.
Showit makes it extremely easy to edit your copy and images. It is a drag and drop layout. And when you click on the text box, you can edit it. Similar with images—click on the image, the media library will open and you can change the image. Be sure to check that it is changed on both desktop and mobile versions. Do this by toggling through the mobile and desktop tabs on the right side menu.
The canvas and items within the canvas are layered. Stack your canvases with the most important information closer to the top of the page.
You have the ability to hide individual items on either desktop or mobile. Open the canvas, select the item and then unchecked the phone or computer icon.
From the design settings, you can set specific fonts, sizing, and colours for your Title, Header, Sub Header, and Paragraph styles.
When you are inside a page canvas, click into the text box and edit the text you want to. If you want a word to stand out in another font, you will need to put it in a new text box. Showit does not support individual words in a text box to be a different font or size—the whole text box has to be the same font.
Be sure to also adjust the hyperlink and hover text in the lower part of the Text Style menu.
To help with SEO, it’s recommended you include various headers that Google or other search engines scan to help bring your website to the top of searches. Headers also help give your customer’s eyes a break when reading your copy.
You want to use these headers as tools—this means including keywords where applicable. If your customer is searching for Dog Leashes, your Header 1 or H1 should include the words
“dog leashes.”
This also helps with SEO. Because search engines scan your pages for information and gather information about your site to then bring your site to the top of searches.
Think of essay writing, every time you change a topic you jump to a new paragraph, and it is the same with websites. A new topic means a new header, and this will be a Header 2 or H2. If you have a subtopic then add a Header 3 or H3, etc.
Another important thing to keep in mind is to update your copy. The new copy will help search engines build a profile on you so you show up higher in searches.
When you want to adjust a text box or image, simply click on the text box or image and you are able to edit it. Be sure to adjust the image in the Mobile + Desktop version by toggling through the Mobile and Desktop tabs on the right menu.
